Question for Captain Kwok... |
Captain, as you know I'm trying to start a PBW game with BM 1.09.
I just remembered that I edited the mod's settings.txt file for my own tastes... the changes are minor but specifically: 1.) I changed the minimum angle at which ships stop to turn so that the animations are changed somewhat and they don't stop and turn on the spot AND; 2.) I also changed the number of AIs generated at low, medium and high so that no AIs are duplicated.
Number 2 may not have any effect on the game but 1 is a cause for concern. Do I have to reinstall BM so that the original settings.txt is restored? Or is my minor change ok? Will I get errors or something and not be able to start the game?
Thanks!

Re: Question for Captain Kwok...
At this time both of those changes will result in a data files not correct message when attempting to play PBW turns with the mod. As of v1.44, it won't prevent you using your files - but it will in the next patch.
I'd advise that you have a separate BM install with your personal changes, and a "stock" Balance Mod install for PBW games etc. Note that with PBW, turns are simultaneous so combat is resolved strategically rather than tactically - so the visual preference for movement is mute anyway.

Re: Question for Captain Kwok...
I'm not Kwok, but I suspect that the changes will have no effect for now, but once the next patch for SE5 comes out, they will probably require you to match your mod to what's on PBW. That's because currently SE5 doesn't check settings.txt for compatibility between mod versions, but the latest beta versions do check parts of settings.txt - if you want to check which parts, look here:
